The Shiba Inu originates from Japan and is a hunting dog for birds and small animals. They are also a companion dog.

A member of the Non-Sporting group they are in the medium size category as they are at 13 to 16 inches at the shoulders and have an average litter size of 4 and an average life span of 13 to 16 years.

They require weekly brushing and shed heavily. This affectionate yet energetic dog is not the best choice for families with children as they have a very low tolerance for them and have high exercise needs.
