The Shetland Sheepdog is an affectionate and intelligent dog who is a very quick learner and is quite loyal and active. They are of medium size at 13 to 16 inches at the shoulders.

A member of the Herding group they have an average litter size of 4 and an average life span of 9 to 15 years.

They shed heavily and need regular brushing to prevent matting.

They get along well with other animals and even though they are good with children they are not recommended for families with toddlers. They require 60 to 90 minutes of strenuous energy each day.
