Plastic Surgery Has Risks Too


It is being reported that although rare, there are risks associated with types of plastic surgery including tummy tucks, breast enhancements, and other cosmetic procedures

Knowing the risks that are at play when deciding to undergo plastic surgery should be a top priority for people because there are significant risk factors involved that can potentially include loss of life.

"Surgery is still surgery. There is always some risk," said Dr. Richard D'Amico, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Just recently it was reported that the mother of famous rapper Kanye West died hours after receiving plastic surgery.

According to the coroner's report her death was attributed to complications from cosmetic surgery.

Despite this recent notable death, the fact is the risk of death from complications from plastic surgery are relatively rare. A 2004 study found that the risk of death from procedures such as tummy tucks, breast enlargement or reduction, liposuction and other cosmetic fixes were rare.

According to results from the study that looked at more than 411,670 procedures, complications were only reported in about 1 in every 299 cases.

Complications included bruises, infections, respiratory problems and heart problems.

Nearly 11 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in the United States in 2006.

To minimize your risk of being a greater risk of a complication if you decide to undergo plastic surgery, it is recommended that you only go to a well known highly reputed surgeon.
