It is being reported that sales for a type of morning after pill are stronger than ever despite critics doing what they can to overthrow it.

Plan B is the name of the pill which is marketed by Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. and was approved by the USFDA in August of 2006.

The pill was approved for over the counter purchase for any woman over the age of 18 and is now carried by all large pharmacy chains across the United States. "Overall, we've been very pleased with the acceptance," said Barr spokeswoman Carol Cox. "The product may not be for everyone — but if you find yourself in a position to need it, absolutely it should be available."

Despite the fact that the product has made a lot of money for its manufacturer since it was introduced to the US market, critics of the pill feel that it is doing women more harm than good. "Barr may be making a healthy profit, but women are paying the price," said Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America.

"Many women still don't know it's available," said NARAL's president, Nancy Keenan. "There's a lot of education that needs to be done."

Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America states that "We're talking about very mainstream health care here, and yet there is a fringe group of folks in this country who seem determined to prevent women from getting emergency contraception."
