August 11 2008 - Jackson police officers have shot and killed a pit bull that charged at them early on Sunday morning.

The officers were responding to a call about a loose pit bull when the incident took place.

They stated that upon exiting their police vehicle, they were rushed by the dog, so they shot it dead on the spot.

According to a police spokesman, 4 to 5 shots were fired but it is unsure how many hit the pit bull.

Neither officer was hurt during the incident, and a search is ongoing for the owner of the animal.

Due to the dog being unrestrained, its owner will be receiving a citation.

This is the second time in less than 2 months that a police officer from Jackson has shot at a pit bull.
