Microchips are worth their weight in gold

Memphis Animal Services has made a change to its adoption program that will aid adopted pets from this day forward. The agency has begun to inject microchips into the animals before they are adopted to insure that in case they get lost, they can be tracked and easily found again.

For those people who are unfamiliar with the microchip and how it works, it is comprised of a tiny computer chip that is simply implanted under the skin of the animal's neck using a syringe. This chip contains vital information such as the owners name and address, the name of the pet, and contact information that is readily available via simply scanning the animals specific bar code at an animal shelter.

Cost to adopt a pet from the Memphis Animal Humane Society has gone up a little bit to help cover the increased cost due to the chipping and would-be pet owners will be paying an extra $25 to take home a beloved pet, $25 well spend if you ask me.
